Health is Wealth: Unlocking Success Through Mind & Body Wellness
“From the Mind Your Business podcast, Dr. Jakima Miller reveals how holistic wellness fuels success.”

Max Fortune:
Have you ever felt like your body is trying to tell you something, but you just don’t know how to listen? Today’s guest, Dr. Jakima Miller, is here to break it all down—how your mental, physical, and environmental health are connected, and how you can take the first steps toward living a healthier, more balanced life. Dr. Miller, welcome to Mind Your Business!
Dr. Jakima Miller:
Thank you, Max! I’m so excited to be here. I think this conversation is crucial, especially for entrepreneurs who are often so focused on their business success that they neglect their health.
Max Fortune:
Your journey into physical therapy and holistic health began at a young age. Can you share how those early experiences shaped your passion for health?
Dr. Jakima Miller:
Absolutely. Growing up, I was the youngest and the only girl with three older brothers, and we had a family full of athletes. My dad coached, my brothers played, and even our adopted family members were active in sports. Injuries were common in our house. I vividly remember when my dad broke his femur sliding into third base. I helped him through his recovery—changing bandages, assisting with therapy, and learning the art of healing. I was only 10, but I was already taping ankles in the locker room and working out in the weight room every summer. Those experiences showed me the power of recovery and how much the human body can endure and heal.
Max Fortune:
That’s amazing. It sounds like you were destined for this path. You emphasize the connection between mental, physical, and environmental health. How do these aspects come together to influence overall wellness?
Dr. Jakima Miller:
It’s all about balance. I like to think of it as a three-legged stool—if one leg is weak, the stool can’t stand. Mental clarity is essential because it drives every decision you make. Physical health allows you to act on those decisions, and your environment either supports or hinders both. If you’re surrounded by negativity or unhealthy influences, it’s hard to thrive. But when you align these three areas, you find harmony. And harmony leads to productivity, creativity, and ultimately, success.
Max Fortune:
That’s a powerful analogy. Balance is definitely easier said than done, especially for entrepreneurs. I’ll admit, I still struggle with working 14-hour days. What advice would you give to someone like me—or anyone else—looking to create healthier habits?
Dr. Jakima Miller:
The first step is prioritizing yourself. Entrepreneurs are great at setting goals for their businesses but often forget to set personal goals. Start small: dedicate the first 30 minutes of your day to yourself. Wake up, take a few deep breaths, and express gratitude. Plan your meals to include whole, nutritious foods, and carve out time for movement—even if it’s just a walk around your neighborhood. Most importantly, remember that health is a journey. You don’t have to overhaul your life overnight.
Max Fortune:
Gratitude is such a great starting point. I’ve been keeping a “Thankfulness Journal” since 2015, and it’s made a huge difference. I reflect on the previous day and write down everything I’m grateful for. It helps set the tone for my day.
Dr. Jakima Miller:
That’s a fantastic practice. Gratitude rewires your brain to focus on abundance rather than lack. And when you start your day on a positive note, it creates momentum. It’s hard to be stressed and grateful at the same time!
Max Fortune:
Exactly. Now, let’s talk about circulation. You’ve mentioned how crucial it is to physical health. Can you explain why proper circulation is so important?
Dr. Jakima Miller:
Circulation is life. Your blood carries oxygen and nutrients to every cell in your body, and proper flow ensures your organs function optimally. When circulation is compromised, it can lead to fatigue, slower healing, and even chronic conditions. Starting your day with movement—whether it’s stretching in bed, yoga, or a light walk—stimulates blood flow. This small step can improve energy levels and mental clarity throughout the day.
Max Fortune:
That’s incredible advice. Entrepreneurs are often under constant pressure. How does holistic health help them manage stress and perform at their best?
Dr. Jakima Miller:
Holistic health provides the tools you need to cope with stress. Regular exercise releases endorphins, which combat stress. Mindfulness practices like meditation or journaling help you process challenges instead of letting them overwhelm you. And prioritizing sleep ensures your body has time to recover. Entrepreneurs are the engines of their businesses—if the engine breaks down, nothing moves forward. Taking care of yourself is the most strategic investment you can make.
Max Fortune:
Let’s talk about environment. How can people improve their surroundings for better health?
Dr. Jakima Miller:
Your environment is a reflection of your inner state. Declutter your space, add plants for better air quality, and surround yourself with people who uplift you. Limit exposure to toxic relationships and environments—these drain your energy and hinder progress. Even small changes, like replacing scratched cookware or reducing processed foods in your pantry, can have a huge impact.
Max Fortune:
Those are great tips. Switching gears, you’ve made several career pivots. How have those shaped your perspective on life and health?
Dr. Jakima Miller:
Each pivot taught me resilience and adaptability. Moving from premed to physical therapy to opening my own practice showed me that every experience has value. Sometimes, a closed door redirects you to something better. It’s all about trusting the process, listening to your intuition, and staying open to growth.
Max Fortune:
Absolutely. Before we wrap up, what legacy do you hope to leave in the world of health and wellness?
Dr. Jakima Miller:
I want people to realize that small, consistent steps lead to transformation. Health isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress. My hope is to inspire others to prioritize their well-being, not just for themselves but for the people who depend on them. If I can help even one person live a healthier, more fulfilling life, I’ve done my job.
